The best way to decide between two crossover SUVs is to line them up next to each other and ask what separates one from the other. Your preference is likely to come down to which car has the performance, versatility, and convenience you need.

In this head-to-head comparison, we take a look at two new Mitsubishi models: the 2018 Eclipse Cross and the 2018 Outlander.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross vs. Mitsubishi Outlander

Handling and Powertrain

For maximum traction around sharp curves and along slippery slopes, Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) is available for both the Eclipse Cross and the Outlander. S-AWC offers responsive handling by combining 4-Wheel Drive, Active Stability Control, Anti-Lock Braking, and Active Yaw Control. Both models can traverse in one of four driving modes — Normal, Snow, Lock, and Eco — to maintain optimal traction on ice and gravel and everything in between.

Though they offer similar drivetrains, each model comes with its own powertrain options. The Eclipse Cross comes standard with a 1.5L direct-injection turbo engine with 8-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). On the other side, the Outlander offers a dynamic 166-hp 2.4L V6 MIVEC engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Cabin Space

The Eclipse Cross offers comfortable seating for up to 5 passengers, with flexible configurations for second-row passengers — including 9 unique reclining positions. Easily fold down the seats and use up to 48.9 cu. ft. of cargo space for longer journeys.

If you have a bigger family and require even more seating, the Outlander has maximum seating for 7 passengers. Use the Remote Power Liftgate to load the cabin. With the rear seats folded down you can access up to 63.3 cu. ft. of cargo space in this larger crossover.

Both models feature available Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, which make it simple to answer phone calls, send text messages, access your music library, and more without taking your eyes from the road.
