In releasing the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the brand is going back to the well.

Sort of.

The Eclipse was among the most popular sports cars of the 1990s, an era in which 2-door sedans dotted the roadways in bulk. But as the 21st century was ushered in, so too was a new era of popular vehicles, this time being the compact SUV. With the all-new Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi takes the best attributes of the model’s predecessor and combines it with crossover versatility.

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: An Overview

The 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross in four trim levels, each serving as a stepping stone toward more luxury, more convenience, and more performance.

Balancing compactness with cargo space is always tricky with this class of vehicle but Mitsubishi does a nice job using nearly 23 cubic feet of space as a foundation for the 60/40 split-folding rear seats that can also slide forward to create even more room in the back.

Up front, the five-seater Eclipse Cross sports plenty of tech, including Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility bolstered by a 7-inch touchscreen display along with a touch-pad controller similar to systems found in Lexus and Audi models. You’ll also find Mitsubishi Connect, which is a suite of applications such as teen driver monitoring, remote starting, and temperature setting.

From the heated front and rear seats (that can be found in leather in upgraded trims), look up and you’ll see a panoramic sunroof, the finishing touch in a stylish interior.

Under the hood of the Eclipse Cross is a 1.5L turbocharged engine good enough for 152 horsepower that pairs nicely with an available all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Topping things off is an impressive 26 city/29 highway MPG fuel economy.

Available safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree camera, to name just a few. But perhaps most exciting is the available heads-up display and Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control system, which electronically distributes torque to the appropriate wheels based on traction needs.

To top it all off, Mitsubishi has tagged the Eclipse Cross with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
